The technical part of Shorinji Kempo is a combination of two systems, the hard (Goho) and soft (Juho) techniques :
Goho refers to techniques whose aim is to overcome the opponent. During attack,
Goho is mainly represented by punches, kicks, cuts, slashes and other "atemis".
In defense, it is used for dodges, deflections, parries and blocks.
Juho techniques are used when in contact with an opponent. By changing the
contact, it is possible to gain control. Defense forms, joint reverses, throws and
pins are the principal Juho techniques.
Goho and Juho systems are woven into finely intermeshed patterns. They are simply
two ways, united and indivisible, of using the body. While learning combat techniques, the soft and hard
systems must be combined.
Upon looking, one can find soft parts in Goho techniques and hard parts in those classified as Juho.
The character of Shorinji Kempo and its efficiency lies in the combined use
of the two systems.
